Porcelain vs. Glass vs. Fusion Pool Mosaics: Which Should You Choose?

Fusion iridescent loggerhead turtle pool mosaic in Sapphire

Artistry in Mosaics makes pool mosaics in three materials: handcrafted porcelain, hand-assembled glass, and iridescent Fusion. All three are built for life underwater. The right one depends on your budget, where the mosaic goes, and the look you want.

Porcelain pool mosaics

Porcelain is where most people start. These designs are handcrafted and arrive face-mounted and ready to set. You'll find the biggest selection here, from 4" minis and step markers to large sea turtles, dolphins and medallions. Most porcelain designs can also be special-ordered with a slip-resistant coating, custom colors or a mirrored direction.

Example: the Sea Turtle porcelain mosaic is $280.03 at 16" x 21".

Glass pool mosaics

Glass mosaics are hand-assembled from the same glass tile used in Artistry in Mosaics' glass pool tile blends, so color stays vivid underwater. They're the choice for a true centerpiece, or when you want the mosaic to match a glass waterline tile.

Example: the Sea Turtle glass mosaic is $753.52 at 14" x 24".

Fusion iridescent accents

Fusion is an iridescent porcelain with a pool-rated non-slip finish, offered in Sapphire, Caribbean and Rainbow. Because the color changes with the light, Fusion is especially striking in shallow, sunny water like steps, swim-outs, sun shelves and beach entries.

Example: the Fusion Loggerhead Turtle starts at $63.03 for a 6" piece.

How to decide

  • On a budget, or adding several pieces? Porcelain.
  • One showstopper for the pool floor? Glass.
  • Want shimmer on the steps or sun shelf? Fusion.
  • Mixing materials? That works too. A glass medallion in the deep end with porcelain minis on the steps is a popular combination.

Before you buy

  • All three are installed by your tile setter while the pool is empty, so plan them with a build or remodel.
  • Want to compare colors? Order a $5 tile sample.
  • In-stock orders ship within 1–2 business days, with free US shipping on orders under 20 lb.
